Arundel Stainless Steel Water Bottle Cage Review

Arundel Stainless Steel Water Bottle Cage

Arundel owns the carbon bottle cage market for a simple reason: its cages are light, they look snazzy, they don’t eject bottles, and they’re priced right. Now they take this M.O. and apply it to an stainless steel. In the past if you wanted a stainless cage, your only choice was an Elite Ciussi Inox. With the Arundel Stainless Steel Water Bottle Cage, you get an option that — to us anyways — is significantly prettier than the Inox. And you’ll see after you a few miles that Arundel applies the same No-Ejecto technology to their Stainless model. Your bottles will stay in place. Period. Like their carbon cages, the Stainless is light (15g heavier than carbon), it looks lovely, and the price is ideal. If you want an old-school touch on your carbon bike — or if you want a cage that makes aesthetic sense for a steel bike — choose the Arundel Stainless Steel Water Bottle Cage.

Arundel Sideloader Water Bottle Cage Review

Arundel Sideloader Water Bottle Cage

Small bikes and compact frames of all sizes have long been troublesome with their difficulty in allowing you to pull a bottle from a water bottle cage. There are oftentimes such little space in between the top of the bottle and the bottom of the top tube that it’s nearly impossible to get a bottle out of the cage (especially on the seat tube but also on the downtube) without forcing you to wrench it sideways from the cage and unintentionally almost ripping your cage off the frame in the process. The Arundel Sideloader Water Bottle Cage was designed specifically to address this. Rather than forcing you to pull (or attempt to pull) your bottle fully upward, its minimalist profile allows you to pull the bottle up just a bit, then to move it outward to prevent the top of the bottle from smacking the bottom of the top tube. And, truth be told, the cage has such a neatly sculpted shape that many folks choose the Sideloader for looks alone. It fits any size bottle — tall or short. It’s available in Matte Black, Oil Slick, and Gloss carbon with two different decal colors — Red or Silver.

Arundel OtherSideloader Water Bottle Cage Matte Black, One Size Review

Arundel OtherSideloader Water Bottle Cage Matte Black, One Size

SideLoader / OtherSideLoader cages solve the problem of cramped space on Compact style road frames, as well as MTB applications. They’re dedicated right or left (fitment specific). One Sideloader plus one OtherSideloader outfits a standard road frame. The shape matches Dave-O’s perfectly. SideLoaders are for seat tube mount, right side entry; Other SideLoaders are for down tube mount, right side entry. Swap them with each other if you’re a lefty… or want the extra clearance of non-drive side access.

Arundel OtherSideloader Water Bottle Cage Review

Arundel OtherSideloader Water Bottle Cage

Since we’ve been a southpaw from day one, Arundel’s original Sideloader carbon bottle cage is not to our liking on our down tube. We steer with our left and reach with our right. The Sideloader is designed to be pulled from the left. So for us, the Sideloader would work as a seat tube-mounted cage, but not down tube. Hence the introduction of the Arundel OtherSideloader Water Bottle Cage. It’s designed to be pulled from the right side on the down tube and from the left side on the seat tube. And to satisfy our need to give truth in advertising, both Arundel’s Sideloader and OtherSideloader are not true side-loading water bottle cages. This is to state that you do not pull them out or push them in a plane that is perpendicular to the down and seat tubes. They are more accurately called 3/4 loaders, as they are designed to have the user insert and remove the bottle in a direction that is halfway between perpendicular and parallel. One drawback to buying the OtherSideloader online is you don’t get to see the cool packaging that is printed backwards on purpose until you get the cage in your hands. The cage comes with a small cardboard backing that includes alloy bolts. There are two sets of holes for the alloy bolts to go through, high and low. Choose one. Weight of a single Arundel OtherSideloader Water Bottle Cage is 30g.

They may not be the most exciting accessory to add to your frame, but a trustworthy bottle cage is an integral part of every ride. We’d argue that it’s also one of the least appreciated pieces of cycling equipment. While most cage designs are made in one standard size, Arundel’s Bando Cage includes two optional silicone rubber bands that allow you to customize the tension of the cage depending on the type of ride you’re on. You can choose to ride with no band, a thin band, or a thick band, each making the cage tighter and the bottle more difficult to release. Whether you’re going on a bumpy ride across historic cobblestones and want your bottle locked in place or are planning a smooth, relaxed spin along pristine tarmac, you can adapt the cage to fit the way you need it to on any given day or any given bike.
